How to install and activate your Neuseeland eSIM
About 3 minutesDo this on Wi-Fi before you fly. Tap “Use QR code” and point the camera at the code in your email.
Turn off “Turn On This Line” so nothing connects while you are still at home.
Settings → Mobile Service → Mobile Data → Neuseeland. Leave your home line as the default for calls and SMS.
Or “Add mobile plan” on Samsung. Choose “Scan QR code” and use the code from your email.
Some phones enable it on install. Toggle it off until you are on the plane.

Step-by-step guide →Neuseeland eSIM vs a local SIM vs roaming
eSIM vs SIM vs roamingMost travellers compare three options. The differences that actually bite are paperwork, wasted days and what happens when you cross into a neighbouring country mid-trip.
| RoamiData eSIM | Airport SIM | Home-carrier roaming | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Getting it | Online, QR in a minute | Queue at the airport counter | Nothing to install |
| ID needed | None | Passport, in person | None |
| Paid days | Only the days you pick | Fixed packs, often 30 days | Billed per day or per MB |
| Typical cost | From $3.99 | Varies by airport | Depends on your home carrier |
| Cross-border | Add a regional pass, keep the same eSIM | Buy a new SIM per country | Works, but usually throttled |
| Your number | Stays live for calls and SMS | Swap the tray, lose it | Stays live |
| If it breaks | 24/7 chat, refund if it never connects | Back to the counter | Call your carrier |
Roaming rates vary by carrier; check before you travel. Check your own carrier before you travel — some include Neuseeland in a regional bundle.
